Updating Your Home Office? Here Are a Few Great Looks to Consider…

With so many of us now spending more time working from home, home offices are being incorporated into our spaces. That dining room table or kitchen island or comfy bed that we previously used to set up our laptop and catch up on work for a few hours just doesn’t cut it anymore. We need new spaces – free of distractions and fully equipped – to be more productive.

If you are considering installing a home office in your house – or have already done so but feel that it needs an update – here are a few great ideas to ponder. They don’t require renovations, just some coats of paint and accent pieces…

Minimalist

For those whose homes are decorated with a minimalist feel, carry the look straight into the office space. A strictly white palette, a simple rug, and minimalist furniture can help achieve the look.

Crazy Color

Not into minimalism or super clean looks? Go crazy with the color. Paint the walls with bright colors that compliment each other or put up color filled art on the walls. Add heavier accent pieces and furniture to balance such as a leather desk chair with brass accents and a colorful silk rug.

Clean and Bright

If you are fortunate enough to have large windows in the space, take advantage of the natural sunlight. Keep the panes open and not hidden by window treatments. Paint the room in a clean white and add a few pops of colors – a rug, a lamp, a piece of art – to make the space bright. Don’t weigh the room down with heavy furniture but rather keep it light.

Sleek Two-Toned

If too much color gives you a headache, tone it down by picking two colors and go for it. Navy and forest green for example, and consistently weave different the hues throughout the room. A white desk, navy rug, forest green lamp, navy painted bookshelf, and white curtains will seamlessly work together. Add navy and forest green office files and desk accessories, and you will have a winner, winner chicken dinner!

Vibing the Med

Even if your home isn’t decorated with a Mediterranean feel, in your office space you can flip the script and go wild. Find Mediterranean inspired art and a great Moroccan rug. Throw in wooden furniture or a couch that captures the essence of the region. Use elegant fabrics and accessories to create a rich feel. But don’t make it too comfortable, you still have to work.

A Simple Study with Antiques (and a Statement Wall)

You have wonderful treasures bought on your travels that you want to showcase. And personal items that scream your personality and make you happy. You want to be surrounded by these pieces while you work. For sentimentality, for creativity, for whatever your need may be. But what about the big pieces – think desk, lamps, chairs, couch? The answer is antiques. Scatter them throughout the room so that they seamlessly blend with eclectic style of the mash of mementos. And then, top it all off with a bold statement wall. Paint a wall brilliant red, find a unique piece of art, or hang strips of vibrant blue silks.

There you have it. Six looks to make you re-think your office space. All are easy to pull off, just choose the one that best suits you.
