Westover + Tara Leeway Heights
NEIGHBORHOOD
Westover
Westover Village is perhaps one of the least known, yet most treasured neighborhoods in Arlington. It's on the National Register of Historic Places for its 1940s-style homes, most of which are colonials and a few red brick ramblers and bungalows. Home prices are slightly lower here, thanks to being a bit further away from the Metro and other amenities. In addition to the older homes are a few apartment communities and some newer development.
Residents in Westover live within the Arlington County School District, with a few schools within walking distance, including Swanson Middle School. The area is noted for a few of its amenities, like the Westover Farmer's Market, perfect for fresh produce and artisan items. About 1900 people call this area home, but it doesn't feel crowded or urban. Even so, I-66 is just a few minutes away and the neighborhood's southern border. Westover Park, which is home to a little league baseball team, is the city's main green space. Some commercial development sits along the city's western edge, including a bank and a library.
Tara Leeway Heights
Towards the northwestern side of the city is Tara Leeway Heights, a residential area that's home to some of the best tree-lined streets. Located just north of Ballston, Tara Leeway Heights has many home styles, including fantastic bungalows, craftsman-style homes, and colonials. A few larger estates can be found, although homes sell quickly due to their location and beautifully maintained properties.
Tara Leeway Heights is nearly all residential, but it sits across the street from Virginia Hospital Center and various medical buildings. The largest green space in the area is Big Walnut Park, which features walking trails and open space perfect for a game or two. Parkhurst Park is just over N. Lexington St and offers more amenities, including a trail. Lacey Woods Park is just to the south of this area, with more trails and densely wooded areas.
Residents in Tara Leeway Heights have access to Arlington County Public Schools, though no schools are located in the community itself. For those traveling into the city, the on-ramp to I-66 is about a 10-minute drive.
